What inspired you to become a staging professional?
I have always loved interiors ! Who knows why? When I was a little girl I was always drawing pictures of houses as if you were looking into them with the roof lifted off…and drawing the furniture placement the way I thought it should be. I didn’t read many comic books but I could be content for hours paging through a copy of Veranda or House Beautiful at my grandmother’s house. It’s stayed with me all through the years….I still love to look at beautiful interiors and create stunning living spaces!
Finally in 2006, I left my long career in Oncology Nursing to pursue my heart’s desire …I became certified an an ASP ( Accredited Staging Professional ) and started my own company, ROOM SERVICE STAGING. I’ve never looked back and have never been happier! This business has been very good to me.
What do you love about your job?
I love the surprise and gratitude of my clients when I enable them to see their homes as they never dreamed they could be. It’s wonderful to part of the process of helping people move forward in their lives ! Contact with many different types of people closely mimics my nursing career and I love it.
Do you have a favorite experience that you could share with us?
The most gratifying experience by far was being part of a volunteer group of ASP Staging Professionals who transformed the RONALD MC DONALD HOUSE for the families of critically ill children whose families reside there while their children are patients at Children’s Hospital. We all donated our time ,as well as staging accessories and art ,and we staged all the common areas…the dining area, the “family” room, the computer/communications center, the library, the TV area…It was so satisfying to know that we helped to ease the anxiety and stress of having a gravely ill loved one by adding some beauty, functionality and serenity to their experience. I’ll never forget it.
What about a least favorite — any horror stories?
One of my first staging jobs was a couple who had been in their home 27 years ( can you say “clutter” ?) and owned a Great Dane who was like a child to them.
Unfortunately his dog house (which was only slightly smaller than theirs) was positioned on the patio right in front of the large windows that overlooked their beautiful backyard and mature trees.
It took all my skills of diplomacy to convince them that it had to be moved for the duration of the sale of their home. In the end they came to understand the reasons for my decision and we enlisted several strong men to ease it around the corner, out of sight of the family room. I finished staging the house on a Wednesday evening and it sold two days later on Friday morning…for full price and before it was even in MLS!! The best part is that they asked me to stage their new home for living!
What is your favorite type of house to stage?
I love them all…the variety is what makes staging so interesting and fun!
What sets you apart from the competition?
I have an ironclad commitment to client satisfaction and a critical eye for detail…I’m not happy until the clients (Realtor and seller) are satisfied. And I make it a point to include a bit of elegant whimsy in every home I stage…because life should make you smile !
What is your favorite Colorado restaurant?
We have a Christmas tradition of watching the shoppers and lovers and families hurry through the swirling snow outside from the w
arm interior of Las Margarita’s on Downing while we savor the mushroom& spinach quesadillas and a big Margarita by the fire. For big occasions, nothing beats Flagstaff House in Boulder!
What is the last movie that you watched?
A Single Man with Colin Firth
What is playing in your ipod right now?
Boz Skaggs…the best!

What inspired you to become a staging professional?
I have always had a passion for decorating and redesigning my friends and families rooms. I decided to go to school to become an accredited staging and redesign professional and to start my own company, so I could make a living doing something I love!
What do you love about your job?
I love it when people say things like “You have a real gift!”, “I think we’ll live like this at our next house!”, and “Now I don’t think I want to sell it!” I love making people feel good about hiring a Stager and I really love it when the house goes under contract soon after I stage it!
Do you have a favorite experience that you could share with us?
I had one client who I had heard her feelings were hurt after my first consultation with her. After my third visit, when I finally finished the staging process, she said “I love this, I need to call all my friends to come over to see it, I need to send pictures to my family, maybe I won’t sell it now, I want to cook you dinner!”…. I gave her a hug!
What about a least favorite — any horror stories?
Single guy…. 20 pairs of shoes by the front door, laundry all over the family room, no clothes in the closets, five bedrooms, dining room with no room or dining table to dine at, three trips to his house in Boulder ….need I say more!
What is your favorite type of house to stage?
I have no favorites. I enjoy them all, whether it’s 550 square feet or 6000 square feet, an early 1900’s bungalow or a trendy loft!
What sets you apart from the competition?
Staging makes me Happy!
What is your favorite Colorado restaurant?
Flagstaff House and Billy’s Inn( I go to this one more often)
What is the last movie that you watched?

What inspired me to become a staging professional?
It was due to a Realtor (Dave Cupp) nearly 18 years ago who advised me that I needed to “stage” homes along with my Design business. I was curious… very curious. So I literally put my design skills to work and “redesigned” each and every home Dave Cupp had listed. We were an excellent team and turned his listings in no time. I was scared to death in my first years but soon learned how effective my Interior Design knowledge has been. I LOVE turning almost any home into a near “Model Home”
A favorite experience was…
I was asked by a Realtor with ReMax Masters about 8 years ago to help him with a “challenging” house. This home had not been updated in 30 years and needed core issues badly. Luckily the homeowners were very willing to listen and spend the money required to “redo” their home. I put together a plan to: paint the entire interior with rich warm colors, new carpeting, all new light fixtures and all new white 2″ blinds. They came up with an acceptable budget and we got started. I oversaw the project and within three weeks everything including some furniture and accessories were purchased and ready to relist. Dan was hammering the sign in the ground when his phone rang and a friend asked if he had a property in the Cherry Creek Vistas area. He said “as we speak I do”. He and his wife came by to see the house, they looked and quickly gasped with “this house is perfect”… ready to move in condition! They purchased the home right then and there and for FULL price. These folks are still in the area and always willing to refer my Co. and this story. This was truly one of my most rewarding experiences of my staging career.
What I love about my job….
I enjoy working with people and helping them sell their homes for top dollar and as quickly as possible. I am passionate about well appointed spaces, the flow of a room and the charm (or not) that invites me to want to settle in and “stay awhile”. I can see quickly what it takes to transform a room and do it with a minimal amount of money. I get to come up with paint colors, a rich charming kitchen, romantic bathrooms and wonderfully laid out family rooms that invite the family to nestle in and be together comfortably.
I LOVE getting to be creative and…. make people happy.
My least favorite stories…
When I have to be totally honest with the needs of their homes and some folks are not prepared to hear “the truth” of the total package. I am very detailed with how to stage a home and at times it requires money to invest in a few items to update or make things come alive. Staging a home can be rather emotional and feelings come out. There have been a few cases where a couple women have been in tears. I have learned to be extremely sensitive to peoples homes and their things in it…..
My favorite house to stage….
My initial reaction was that I didn’t have a favorite but truth is, they all are unique with totally different needs. I enjoy the challenge it takes to make each house show its very best.
What sets me apart from other Stagers…
I am an Interior Designer and I enjoy (if need be) being able to re-do the core to get the most value from the sale, which includes paint colors, carpeting, window coverings, light fixtures and more. I get rather detailed which makes the house look like a model and of course I am passionate about what I do. ( I get excited when I see the changes right then and there), the home owner does too and keeps them motivated!
My favorite restaurant…
Many!! From a good burrito to a quaint French restaurant in Cherry Creek.
El Parrel (Mexican)
Cherry Creek Grille….delicious
Last movie….
Avatar…..outstanding!!

What inspired you to become a staging professional?
I have worked in the interior field for over 22 years and I use to do model homes for Richmond, so the Staging is a good fit for me with my background.

I get to be creative and help home owners improve the way their homes look so they will sell faster.
Do you have a favorite experience that you could share with us?
I staged a vacant home and the realtor had a contract on the house a week later.
What about a least favorite — any horror stories?
Nothing I can think of.
What is your favorite type of house to stage?
More out dated older homes, because those are the ones that really need the help and you can really see what a difference the staging makes.
What sets you apart from the competition?
My over 22 years experience in the interior design field.
What is your favorite Colorado restaurant?
Cherry Crest Fish Market and Wild Ginger. They are local neighborhood restaurants that are small privately owned.

What inspired you to become a staging professional?
I have always been a creative and thrifty person and after having my daughter, I wanted a business that allowed me to be home more with my family and also utilize my college degree in visual merchandising. Becoming certified as a stager offered a seamless crossover from my corporate job of setting up retail stores and window displays to redesigning peoples homes.
What do you love about your job?
I love that I get to do something different everyday and that I can help and inspire people. It’s very rewarding to be able to validate homeowners things and give them new appreciation for their belongings.
Do you have a favorite experience that you could share with us?
My favorite experience is a redesign project I did for a mom who wanted her daughters bedroom redesigned to give her a “teenage” room. The project was a surprise for the teen girl and when we revealed her new room, she was at a loss for words! To this day, the family continues to ask for my design advice and we’ve built a great friendship over decorating.
What about a least favorite — any horror stories?
My least favorite story is actually my own fault. I was given an amazing level tool to easily hang artwork during my staging certification course and when I first started using it I always thought the level was wrong. During a staging in a newly built model home, I was convinced my level tool was not level and I ended up making a dozen holes in the wall of this beautiful, brand new model home, just to hang one picture… I have since learned to trust my level and we’ve come to be best friends now!
What is your favorite type of house to stage?
I love working with open floor plans. There are so many options when your not bound by walls and doors. Furniture can make really interesting configurations and can be used to create separation of spaces for eating, living, reading, anything really!
What sets you apart from the competition?
I keep my prices and fees fair so all my clients can have staging as an option in their homes. I also like to focus on being green, not only because I reuse what people have in their homes, but I offer a green consultation to my clients. There are so many simple things you can do in your home that are better for our environment.
What is your favorite Colorado restaurant?
Tokyo Joes
What is the last movie that you watched?
The Hangover, it’s great for a few laughs, and Vegas is one of my favorite places for a quick weekend away from everyday life.
What is playing in your ipod right now?
U2, it’s easy music that doesn’t distract me from my work.

What inspired you to become a staging professional?
I had been in the corporate world for eleven years and was looking for something new after moving out to Colorado. I knew about staging and organizing, and had staged my own home, but didn’t know I could make that into a career. I grew up with architects, artist, and designers in my family, and my parents were both entrepreneurs, so I knew it was something worth trying. In 2005, I met a group of organizers and stagers at a social event and was impressed with their professionalism and passion for their careers. I knew from that moment this career was a good fit for me. After a week-long staging class, and lots of practice with friends and relatives, I was up and running and never looked back.
What do you love about your job?
I love it when a client says: “I love that – and I would have never thought of putting that there!” It’s fun to show them how their own belongings can look new again in a different spot.
Do you have a favorite experience that you could share with us?
Once I was called in by a Realtor to do a partial-vacant staging bid for a couple who were down-sizing. I gave them a bid for using mostly their items, and also shared a few ideas while I was there. They decided to try staging it themselves to save on costs. The home sat on the market for three months. The realtor had always wanted me to do the staging, so he told them that they had a choice: lower the price or hire me. They hired me to stage it and it was under contract in less than three weeks.
What about a least favorite — any horror stories?
In five years, I’ve only had one client, early on, who didn’t like something – and it was where I put her favorite chair (two feet over from where it was). I learned from then on to always offer to do an occupied staging while the owner is there, so we can discuss the “why” of staging. They enjoy it and I’ll know when they are happy with something immediately!
What is your favorite type of house to stage?
I love working in all homes – but it’s fun to do the older homes and mix in traditional with modern touches. Lofts are fun, too, because of the dramatic change you can make by defining spaces.
What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in working with what the home-owners already have, and treat their belongings with the utmost respect. I love teaching and explaining what will help sell a home and what may not. I am a compassionate stager who will always make the Realtor look good. With vacant projects, I make a point of keeping the feeling of the home inviting, but clean. I don’t over-accessorize, and I choose and arrange the furniture in a way that honors the architecture of the home.
What is your favorite Colorado restaurant?
Spicy Thai
What is the last movie that you watched?
Up in the Air
What is playing in your iPod right now?
80′s music like XTC and the B-52′s.
